Today in Dili, ConocoPhillips together with the Government of Timor-Leste celebrated the graduation of 11 students from the Foundational Skills Training Program. The Program is Phase 1 of a two phase program, with Phase 2 providing five participants the opportunity to undertake a 12 month internship position with ConocoPhillips Australia. The Program was launched in August 2014, in collaboration with the Government of Timor-Leste.

Phase 1 of the Foundational Skills Training Program took place in Dili and Darwin over six months, and was led by Charles Darwin University. The training provided participants with important oil and gas industry knowledge and professional skills. Subjects included oil and gas safety, computer literacy and business communication skills.

The trainees were from disciplines including exploration, engineering, finance, and health, safety and environment (HSE). ConocoPhillips Australia Vice President Paul Dubuisson was in Dili to personally congratulate the training program graduates.

“On behalf of ConocoPhillips and our Bayu-Undan JV Partners, we congratulate the graduates for their enthusiasm and commitment to this demanding training program,” said Mr Dubuisson.

“We were extremely pleased to have worked with representatives of the Autoridade Nacional do Petróleo (ANP), to develop the training program.”

The graduates will shortly be invited to apply for the phase 2 Internship Program, to secure one of five paid 12-month internship positions with ConocoPhillips Australia. The internship will provide participants with invaluable practical industry experience, across offshore and office based environments.

Mr Dubuisson said: “ConocoPhillips is proud of its role to support the development of the people of TimorLeste including this program, which develops the capacity of Timorese graduates to participate in the oil and gas industry.”

ANP President Mr Gualdino da Silva said that the program is an excellent opportunity for qualified Timorese national graduates to gain appropriate hands on experience from an international oil and gas company.

“The ANP is committed to continuously working with oil and gas companies and service providers operating in its jurisdictions, exploring opportunities to maximise the number of Timorese graduates in such programs. It is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the continuous supply of readily available skilled Timorese for oil and gas industry specifically in Timor-Leste and in the region,” said Mr da Silva.
