APLNG - committed to Queensland

Australia Pacific LNG recently reconfirmed its plans to be a major contributor to regional and state economic growth in Queensland. Through its operations across the gas fields in the Surat and Bowen basins and its LNG processing and export facility on Curtis Island, Australia Pacific LNG expects to spend around $3 billion in planned activities in 2018.

This will involve a wide range of infrastructure and development activities carried out by the gas fields operator Origin, including 250 to 300 new wells, operations and maintenance activities for gas processing infrastructure and pipelines as well as work at the Curtis Island LNG facility, operated by ConocoPhillips.

“This expenditure reflects our commitment to regional Queensland as we expect to invest significant amounts in capital works and spend on operational activities every year for at least the next decade,” said Australia Pacific LNG Chief Executive Officer, Warwick King.

“This is the level of expenditure needed to ensure we meet our long-term commitments to the Australian domestic market as well as our LNG export commitments,” he said.

Energy supply, energy security, and energy costs are important to every Australian.  Although there is a clear need to focus on continued development of the existing resource base, access to new resources to continue exploration and development activity is essential to ensure an adequate long-term supply for the east coast of Australia, which in turn will drive both economic and fiscal health.  In addition to access to new resources, innovation and technology are key factors in allowing the gas industry to maximise existing gas field reservoirs and unlock additional supply.

Hand-in-hand with unlocking future natural gas supply, Australia Pacific LNG strives to play a meaningful role in the Gladstone community. Working with and constructively supporting local landholders, local government and regional businesses is integrated in day-to-day business.

Visitors, school groups and residents are welcome to visit the Australia Pacific LNG community centre on Goondoon Street to ask questions and learn more about natural gas and the LNG process.
