ConocoPhillips is the operator of the Bayu-Undan field, located offshore in the Timor Sea within the Joint Petroleum Development Area (JPDA).

Recently, ConocoPhillips hosted a blessing ceremony at the Noble Tom Prosser facility and the new well (W-12), located at the existing wellhead platform (WP1) in the Bayu-Undan field.

The ceremony was carried out by Father Guilherme da Silva and witnessed by representatives of the Timor-Leste National Authority for Petroleum and Minerals (ANPM), the Ministry of Minerals and covered by the National Television (TVTL). The blessing ceremony was initiated by ConocoPhillips due to the cultural significance it has for the Timorese people, and a gesture of respect for local culture.

The Noble Tom Prosser is a drilling facility that has been mobilized at the existing WP1 platform to support the drilling of the first out of three additional wells as part of the Bayu-Undan Infill Well Project. Jose Maria Lobato Goncalves, ConocoPhillips Timor-Leste Country Manager, in his interview with TVTL stated that “the objective of drilling three additional wells is to maximise gas production in order to extend the field life from 2020 to 2022”. The drilling of the first well is scheduled to be complete by mid-year, with first gas production expected in the third quarter of 2018. The remaining two wells are expected to be completed early 2019.
