Thirty Timorese trainees have started their traineeship in Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance after being selected from more than 600 applicants.

The cohort is the second group to undertake the training under a two-year pilot program designed to provide talented students with the opportunity to gain valuable technical skills and knowledge in Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance.

The 12-month program is delivered by local training institute CNEFP-Tibar and international training provider Cegelec, with support from the Autoridade Nacional do Petróleo e Minerais (ANPM), Secretária de Estado Para Formação e Emprego (SEFOPE) and Bayu-Undan Joint Venture Partners through the Cost Recoverable Local Content Project.

Four CNEFP-Tibar trainers are also taking part in the training. They will learn the program content, undertake assessments and understand how they can deliver it to students into the future, as part of the program’s sustainability model.

The program follows on from the first in 2018, which saw 18 students graduate with qualifications and go on to internships, further training and employment with local industries in Timor-Leste.

A commencement ceremony for the second program was held on 24 January at CNEFP-Tibar to officially welcome all 30 trainees to the centre.

Acting on behalf of the President of ANPM, Mr. Fernando da Silva formally welcomed the successful Timorese trainees and congratulated each of them on being selected to pursue the training program.

He also expressed his appreciation to ConocoPhillips and the Bayu-Undan Joint Venture partners for their commitment and continuous cooperation.

ConocoPhillips Timor-Leste Country Manager José Lobato Gonçalves said “the Bayu-Undan Joint Venture Partners were very pleased with the successful delivery of the first vocational training program, with all trainees going on to employment or internships with local organisations.”

“We’re delighted to support a second program in 2019 and we wish all of the trainees every success.”
