The 2012 Safety Excellence Award was presented to ConocoPhillips Australia for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year – an unmatched achievement in the history of the awards. ConocoPhillips Australia-West Vice President of Health, Safety and Environment Steve deAlbuquerque said he was proud to receive the awards, which represent the collective efforts of a
workforce committed to protecting the environment and its people. “At ConocoPhillips we take safety and environmental responsibilities very seriously. We apply systematic and integrated approaches, supported by management and the commitment of our workforce,” Mr deAlbuquerque said.

“In 2012 ConocoPhillips Australia increased its work hours by 163%, while maintaining it safest year on record. A key pillar to achieving this result is the collaboration between supervisors, employees and contractors in a ‘One-Team’ approach.
“As we continue to ramp up construction of Australia Pacific LNG on Curtis Island, Gladstone, it remains vital for us to maintain our focus on safety.” The 2012 Environmental Excellence Award, in the exploration category, recognises ConocoPhillips’ innovative environmental research program involving extensive marine baseline studies, which concentrate on Seringapatam Reef off the coast of Western Australia. “The work to date has added to a more complete understanding of the Browse Basin habitats, pinnacle reefs and marine species,” said Mr deAlbuquerque. “The information collected will enhance the scientific knowledge base of the region, which ConocoPhillips will share with the scientific community and regulatory authorities.”
