Safety

Safety ConocoPhillips believes that all accidents are preventable. Focusing on safe behaviour is a key to preventing accidents and improving our safety initiatives, which is why ConocoPhillips develops programs that emphasize personal responsibility and empower our employees to promote a safe culture. Our programs not only focus on improving safe practices - they strive to make safety a top priority for every employee and to eliminate all unsafe incidents.

WAVESOne such program the Australasia Business Unit has introduced is WAVES (We All Value Each Other’s Safety). It is an employee driven, behavioural based safety process providing peer to peer feedback in a neutral observation process to encourage safe working behaviours.

Our programs not only focus on improving safe practices - they strive to make safety a top priority for every employee and to eliminate all unsafe incidents.

The Journey to Zero

At ConocoPhillips, no job is so important that our employees cannot take the time to do it safely. Our exploration and production operations have created a program called "Journey to Zero," which aims to improve safety performance by promoting safety leadership at all levels of the organization. The program's goal is to have zero injuries, illnesses and incidents in our workplaces, homes and communities. As part of this continuous improvement program, ConocoPhillips distributes surveys to employees around the world to evaluate the company's global safety performance. The results of the surveys are used to develop company-wide safety improvement strategies.

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Excellence

Our HSE Excellence Process enables our businesses to further identify and eliminate work hazards and risks. The process, which involves all levels of the organization, includes an assessment tool that helps manage every stage of the HSE excellence process, from communicating values, policies and standards to measuring current performance and identifying opportunities. We periodically review our HSE management system against corporate HSE. This process helps ConocoPhillips make continuous safety improvements and ultimately achieve the highest standards of HSE excellence.

Emergency Response Training

Part of ConocoPhillips' commitment to safety includes preparing our employees, contractors and communities to respond to operational emergencies. We prepare for emergencies by implementing our emergency response procedures that includes regular training events involving oil spill recovery, fire-fighting and first aid drills, equipment maintenance and review of procedures.
