Education and Youth

The youth of today is the future of tomorrow.

ConocoPhillips is actively involved in supporting the education of the youth in the communities in which we operate.

Relationships have been established with, and support given to, various groups including; Universities, Schools, Department of Employment, Education and Training, Smith Family and Clontarf Foundation. Educational programs include the ConocoPhillips Energy Challenge Program in Darwin and mentoring programs in Perth.

EducationBy cultivating working relationships with universities, we’re able to identify, develop and recruit top talent with the goal of giving students a competitive edge in business.

Our SPIRIT Scholarships and our GRAD program for Geoscience and Engineering graduates have been established to encourage Engineering, Geoscience and Business students to take up a career in the Oil and Gas Industry. Our GRAD program is a globally consistent program incorporating professional development training, mentoring and local and international assignments.

The ConocoPhillips Energy Challenge program is a research-centred, project based competition in Darwin. ConocoPhillips employees visit Year 10 students at high schools and give presentations on one of the six core areas: exploration, drilling, production, transportation, refining and sustainable development. Students work in teams to create projects and in so doing, learn more about the oil and gas industry, in a creative and fun learning environment.

The ConocoPhillips Energy Challenge program is entirely funded, supported and run by ConocoPhillips. The program is based on the Schools Information Program, a joint venture of the Petroleum Club and APPEA.

ConocoPhillips has also assisted various educational projects in Timor-Leste, including:

  • Timor-Leste educational projectsscholarships for National University of Timor-Leste staff
  • training programs for Timorese
  • the refurbishment of the Bidau Primary School, and
